Description

Minotaure in Arles – Artistic Silk Scarf 90×90 cm

by Stella Polare Artiste, Paris

You see a scarf. I create a journey.

The silk scarf “Minotaure in Arles” is part of the Minotaures universe and Minotaure scarf series by Stella Polare Artiste, created in Paris.

This design is inspired by the city of Arles — its light, its architecture, and the poetic tension between history and presence. Within this landscape, the artist introduces her symbolic character: the Minotaur.

Concept

The Minotaur was imagined during the lockdown, as a figure moving through different spaces and states of being.

It originates from a reflection on the French letter “H” — a paradoxical letter that is never pronounced, yet remains essential.
It is present in words like Homme (Man) and Honneur (Honor), structuring meaning while remaining silent.

This invisible presence resonates with the language of gestures, particularly those used by mute communities. The gesture associated with the letter H becomes a symbol — one that echoes the form of the Minotaur.

From this connection, the Minotaur emerges as:

  • a silent presence
  • a moving identity
  • a figure between visibility and invisibility

In this composition, the Minotaur travels to Arles, where it interacts with the environment — bringing the flamingos of the Camargue into a suspended, almost cinematic scene, in front of an emblematic architectural structure.

Artistic Vision

Stella Polare or Khulkar Yunusova is a French-Uzbek contemporary artist based in Paris.
Her work develops around a central concept: “vitaculture” — the urgency of joy as a conscious, aesthetic, and existential act.

Her artistic practice bridges:

  • language and image
  • East and West
  • personal history and collective memory

Her work has been presented at UNESCO, the Louvre, and Palais Jacques Cœur (carte blanche, 2021), among others. The same year 2021 she was invited to the Parole des Femmes, public talk at the House of the Great French writer, Maison de George Sand

Why a scarf

For Stella Polare, the scarf is not a simple accessory.
It is a symbol of emancipation and transformation.

It carries multiple layers of meaning:

  • a marker of status in European history
  • a reference to the paranja and its complex cultural legacy
  • a connection to figures such as Tamara Khanum and Nurkhon Yuldasheva
  • a dialogue with artists like Louise Bourgeois

The scarf also raises questions about invisible labor, particularly the domestic work of women, often absent from economic recognition.
